Tetons’ Season Ends in Region 13 Semifinals After Strong Start Against DCTC
WILLISTON, N.D. — The Williston State College volleyball team saw its 2025 season come to an end this week at the Region 13 Tournament. The Tetons opened postseason play on a high note, defeating Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) in their first-round matchup, but their run concluded in the semifinals with a hard-fought loss to nationally ranked North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS).
In their opening-round victory, the Tetons came out sharp on both sides of the ball, earning a three-set sweep over DCTC behind a balanced offensive effort and strong serving performance.
Leading the way for Williston State was Dani Jordan, who powered the offense with 10 kills on 17 swings for a .471 hitting percentage, while also adding an ace and three blocks to total 11.5 points. Ella Morken matched Jordan's production with 10 kills of her own and a stellar .600 hitting percentage, while Ella Post contributed 6 kills and a team-high 4 service aces.
Setter Tristy Kreil was the offensive engine, dishing out 19 assists and adding 3 aces, while Paula Blanco Retuerta chipped in 15 assists and a service ace of her own. Cailyn Fraser was efficient in the middle, tallying 6 kills and a .500 hitting percentage, while Erika Hanson and Fraser combined for three blocks at the net to help anchor the defense.
Defensively, Emma Hane led the back row with 6 digs, supported by strong serve-receive play from Blanco Retuerta and Kreil. The Tetons' composure and teamwork kept them in control throughout the match, never allowing DCTC to build momentum.
That victory advanced Williston State to the semifinals against top-seeded NDSCS. Despite a determined effort and several strong rallies, the Tetons couldn't overcome the Wildcats' depth and experience, ultimately falling short and bringing their season to a close.
The Tetons finish the 2025 campaign with their heads held high, having showcased major improvement and competitiveness throughout the season. With several key returners, including Jordan, Morken, and Kreil, the future remains bright for Williston State volleyball.
