Teton Hockey finishes first semester on a Winning Note: Sweep Dakota College-Bottineau
While dealing with unprecedented times due to Covid-19, Teton hockey has been trying to find every safe opportunity to play this Fall. Given full blessing from the ACHA Hockey league, many North Dakota ACHA teams have been able to get some games in this fall. The Tetons were able to play 14 games, going 7-4 in ACHA D2 play and 0-3 vs. ACHA D1 teams. "This has been one crazy fall. We are very fortunate that we were able to play real Conference games this semester" stated Coach Bowkus. "WSC, Dr. Miller and our Student Athletes have done a great job following Covid-19 protocols to pull this off."
This past week, the Tetons swept archrival Dakota College-Bottineau in a home and home series. On Wednesday night the Tetons traveled to Bottineau and beat DCB 6-5 in a stunning overtime win 14 seconds into the OT period. The Tetons never trailed the game, going up 5-2 in the 3rd period, before the Lumberjacks scored 3 unanswered goals with 6 minutes to play to force an overtime period. In the overtime, WSC Sophomore, Dylan Borseth, received a cross ice pass from Freshman Jesse Keicher and shot the puck over the DCB goalie for his 2nd goal of the night and more importantly… the win. Other goal scorers for the Tetons included Fox Dodds, Jackson Dodds, Campbell Jackson and Jesse Keicher. Freshman, Tyler Jansen was in goal for his 1st collegiate win.
On Friday night, the game was played in Williston, where no fans have been allowed up to this point. The game was a spirited one with over 90 minutes of penalties being called. DCB struck halfway thru the 1st period with a goal and 1-0 lead after the period. In the 2nd period, the Tetons scored 3 goals to take a 3-2 lead into the locker room. In the 3rd, Dakota College tied up the game early in the period, but the Tetons would score 2 power play goals to take a 5-3 lead with a few minutes left on the clock. DCB added one more goal with 17 seconds left and the Tetons held on for a 5-4 win. Goal Scorers for the Tetons were Sophomore Brendan Jay, Freshman Jackson Dodds, Freshman Eric Moran, Sophomore Dylan Borseth, and Freshman Jake Huska with the game winner. In the nets, Freshman Tyler Jansen recorded his 2nd win of the season.
Teton Hockey is part of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). The ACHA was very instrumental in staying the course and allowing teams that were in areas where Covid-19 cases were under more control. Fortunately, North Dakota was one of the states that all ACHA teams were able to get some games under their belt this fall. Team that the Tetons faced this semester included, University of Jamestown, North Dakota State University, University of Mary, Minot State University, and Dakota College – Bottineau. The other team that was able to play games from the state was University of North Dakota.
Teton Hockey will resume play after the Holiday break with home games scheduled starting January 8th & 9th, 2021. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Here is hoping for a Happy and Healthy 2021 season!
