Williston State Outlasts Dickinson State JV in Overtime Thriller, 102–94
WILLISTON, N.D. — In a game packed with momentum swings, individual heroics, and a dramatic overtime finish, the Williston State men's basketball team outdueled Dickinson State JV 102–94 on Monday night. The Tetons relied on toughness in the paint, clutch free-throw shooting, and three players scoring 18-plus points to secure the high-energy victory.
Tetons Take Control in Overtime
After 40 minutes weren't enough to separate the two teams, Williston State dominated the extra period by attacking the rim and converting at the line. The Tetons shot 23-of-27 from the stripe overall, an 85.2% mark that ultimately proved decisive as Dickinson State JV struggled to keep pace late.
McDonald's 29 Leads the Way
Guard Josiah McDonald delivered a standout performance, pouring in 29 points on 11-of-23 shooting while adding 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. His relentless drives and defensive pressure set the tone, especially in overtime, where he repeatedly forced DSU into tough situations.
Frontcourt Dominance: Sauer Posts Monster Double-Double
If McDonald was the engine, Andrew Sauer was the anchor. The 6'7 forward controlled the glass with a commanding 18-point, 18-rebound double-double, including 8 offensive boards that gave Williston State critical second-chance opportunities. Sauer's work inside helped the Tetons win the rebounding battle 49–34, giving them stability whenever DSU made a run.
Hobbs and Haerer Add Balanced Scoring Punch
Williston State's scoring trio was rounded out by Eden Hobbs and Carson Haerer, who each delivered 18 and 17 points, respectively. Hobbs also added 5 rebounds and 3 assists, while Haerer contributed 6 boards and 3 assists of his own.
Off the bench, Bridger Johnson provided a perfect shooting night—2-for-2 from the field and 2-for-2 from deep—finishing with 8 points in 17 critical minutes.
Dickinson State JV Showcases Firepower Despite Loss
The Blue Hawks battled with impressive resilience, shooting 48.1% from the floor and knocking down 12 threes. Six players scored in double figures:
-
Carson Solberg – 22 points, 4 threes, 4 steals
-
Nolan Weidner – 17 points (3 threes)
-
Zak Woog – 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 blocks
-
Tytan Hanson – 15 points, 10 rebounds

Despite their offensive firepower and defensive activity (16 team steals), DSU struggled with turnovers at key moments and couldn't match Williston State's physicality on the boards.
