Williston State Men’s Basketball Sweeps Devils Lake Weekend, Rolls Past Hibbing and Vermilion
DEVILS LAKE, N.D. — The Williston State College men's basketball team put together a dominant weekend performance at the Lake Region Classic, going 2–0 with convincing wins over Minnesota North College–Hibbing and Minnesota North College–Vermilion. The Tetons opened with a 103–61 rout of Hibbing on Friday before defeating Vermilion 83–67 on Saturday to remain unbeaten on the young season.
Offensive Explosion Lifts Tetons Over Hibbing
Williston State's offense came out firing in their opening game, eclipsing the 100-point mark behind a balanced scoring attack and stellar efficiency.
Sophomore guard Eden Hobbs led all scorers with 34 points on 11-for-18 shooting, going a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Josiah McDonald nearly posted a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Grantham Milner added 11 points and three boards.
The Tetons shot an impressive 48.6% from the field and converted 28-of-35 free throws (80%). Their unselfish play was on full display with 26 assists on 34 made baskets.
Off the bench, Andrew Sauer provided a spark with 7 points and 7 rebounds, and Zynan Zilkoski and Grant Overy each chipped in 6 points. Williston's bench contributed 33 total points in the blowout.
Defensively, the Tetons forced 20 Hibbing turnovers and outrebounded the Cardinals 53–38, controlling the paint throughout.
Hobbs, McDonald Power Tetons Past Vermilion
In Saturday's matchup, Williston State showed grit and composure in a tougher contest against Minnesota North–Vermilion. Behind standout performances from their starting duo, the Tetons pulled away late for an 83–67 victory.
Eden Hobbs continued his torrid scoring pace with 29 points, while Josiah McDonald dominated inside, recording a 26-point, 10-rebound double-double. The pair combined for more than half of Williston's total offense, shooting a combined 19-for-37 from the floor and 17-for-21 from the line.
Grantham Milner added 11 points and six rebounds, and Andrew Sauer chipped in 8 points and 6 rebounds off the bench. Point guard Carson Haerer once again filled the stat sheet, tallying 4 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists while steadying the Tetons' tempo.
As a team, Williston shot 49.1% from the field and 82.8% from the free-throw line, converting key opportunities down the stretch to fend off Vermilion's second-half push.
Defensively, the Tetons held the Ironmen to just 39% shooting and forced 17 turnovers.
