Teton Baseball Earns Series Finale Win at Northeastern Junior College
Sterling, Colo. — The Williston State College baseball team closed out its series on a high note, salvaging the finale with a 17-6 victory after dropping the first three games to Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado.
The Tetons fell in the opening games of the series by scores of 8-3, 9-2 and 11-1 before erupting offensively in Game 4 to secure a 1-3 weekend finish.
After struggling to generate consistent offense through the first three contests, Williston State broke out in the finale, tallying 15 hits and 17 RBIs in a complete team performance at the plate.
Jason Carbno led the charge, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Tyler Jensen added a 2-for-2 performance with three RBIs and three runs, while Matt Moreno Jackson drove in three runs on two hits. Grant Nekuza contributed two hits and two RBIs, and Bradley Cepada chipped in two hits and an RBI.
Hanson Allen crossed the plate twice, and Ashton Sweet added two RBIs as the Tetons capitalized on seven walks and timely hitting throughout the lineup.
On the mound, Collin Cobb earned the win (2-1), throwing 4.0 innings while allowing four runs (three earned) and striking out five. Dylan Gierke and Alexander Kienberger combined in relief to secure the victory, limiting further damage and closing out the five-inning contest.
The 17-run outburst marked a significant turnaround for the Tetons after being held to a combined six runs over the first three games of the series.
Williston State will look to build momentum from the finale as the Tetons continue non-conference play later this week in Kansas.
