Baseball Falls to DCTC 2-1 &10-8
The Williston State College baseball team suffered its first losses of the season, dropping a doubleheader to Dakota County Technical College by scores of 2-1 and 10-8 in extra innings. The setbacks move the Tetons to 7-2 overall on the year.
Game 1: Pitchers' Duel Slips Away, 2-1
The opener was a tightly contested pitchers' duel, with both teams finishing with seven hits. Dakota County capitalized on timely hitting and edged the Tetons 2-1.
Matt Moreno Jackson drove in Williston State's lone run, while Hanson Allen led the offense with two hits. Jason Carbno added a hit and a stolen base, and the Tetons worked four walks but struggled to string together scoring opportunities.
On the mound, Collin Cobb took the tough-luck loss despite a strong outing. Cobb tossed 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out seven and walking none. Dylan Gierke and Andrew Maltar combined for 1.1 scoreless innings in relief to keep the game within reach.
Dakota County plated the go-ahead run late and turned multiple key double plays defensively to hold off the Tetons.
Game 2: Extra-Inning Heartbreaker, 10-8
In the nightcap, Williston State battled back and forth with Dakota County before falling 10-8 in extra innings.
The Tetons pounded out 10 hits and showed offensive balance throughout the lineup. Bradley Cepada went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Jason Carbno had a big game at the plate, collecting two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI. Dylan Klossner added two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, while Rylan Nohr chipped in two doubles and an RBI.
Hanson Allen drove in two runs, and Wyatt Carlson added an RBI as the Tetons kept pressure on Dakota County's pitching staff.
Dakota County answered with 13 hits, including home runs from Evan Nelson and Jacob Cisewski. The game remained tight into extras before Dakota County scored twice in the additional frame to secure the sweep.
Williston State used eight pitchers in the contest, with Tyler Morales taking the loss after surrendering two runs in the extra inning. Despite the defeat, the Tetons showed resilience after falling behind early, battling back to force extra innings.
After opening the season 7-0, Williston State now sits at 7-2 and will look to regroup as they prepare for their next series.
