Tetons Go 2-1 in Powell, WY, Show Offensive Firepower
The Williston State College volleyball team turned in a strong weekend performance in Powell, WY, going 2-1 against tough competition and continuing to show their offensive depth.
The Tetons opened the weekend with a sweep of Dawson Community College, winning in straight sets behind a balanced attack that piled up 39 kills and 14 aces. Sophomore outside hitter Ella Morken paced the offense with 11 kills, while the Tetons' aggressive serving kept Dawson out of rhythm all night.
Williston State followed with another three-set victory, this time over Carroll College JV. The Tetons were dominant at the net, racking up 45 kills in just three sets — an impressive 15 kills per set average. Middle blocker Cheyenne Hayes was nearly unstoppable, recording 7 kills while hitting .636, while Morken again led the team with 15 kills, and freshman outside hitter Dani Jordan added 13 to continue her strong start to the season.
The final match of the weekend saw the Tetons battle Northwest College. WSC came out firing, taking the first set in dominant fashion, but ultimately fell in four sets to a talented Trappers squad. Despite the setback, the Tetons proved they could compete at a high level and showed flashes of their best volleyball of the season.
Head Coach Nathan Martell was encouraged by the progress his team showed in Powell.
"We played our best volleyball of the year so far," Martell said. "We've shown that we are an offensive force. We will be on the attack all match long, all season long. We are excited to open up conference play against Bottineau at home, on Tuesday!"
The Tetons open MonDak Play at 7:00 PM Tuesday in "The Well".
