Teton Women take down Dawson in Glendive
The No. 22-ranked Williston State College women's basketball team continued its dominant season with a commanding 92-38 victory over Dawson Community College, improving to 27-1 overall.
Williston State set the tone early and never looked back, shooting an efficient 50.8 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from three-point range. The Tetons also controlled the glass, outrebounding Dawson 56-33, including a 49-19 advantage on the defensive boards.
Leading the way was Sophie Barker, who delivered a stellar all-around performance with 22 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. Barker added 10 rebounds for a double-double and dished out eight assists while recording four steals.
Leila Heffernan was dominant in the paint, pouring in 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds. Jersey Berg added 20 points and was perfect from the free-throw line, going 10-for-10 while pulling down eight boards.
Dani Jordan chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds, while Lucia Bellido contributed eight points and five rebounds. Off the bench, Emily Fixico provided a spark defensively with four blocks and six rebounds in 19 minutes.
As a team, Williston State knocked down 25-of-34 free throws and tallied 15 assists and 12 steals, showcasing their balanced attack on both ends of the floor.
Dawson struggled offensively, shooting just 18.4 percent from the field and 11.9 percent from three-point range. Tailee Bird led Dawson with 11 points.
With the win, the Tetons solidify their position as the No. 22 team in the nation and continue to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
