Williston State women roll past Miles CC, improve to 25-1
MILES CITY, Mont. — The #25 Williston State College women's basketball team kept its dominant season rolling on the road, blowing past Miles Community College 104-59 on Saturday in Miles City to improve to 25-1 overall.
The Tetons set the tone early with relentless pace and pressure, shooting 50 percent from the floor and building a comfortable lead that only grew as the game wore on. Williston State finished with a 43-25 rebounding edge and handed out 24 assists on 38 made field goals, showcasing the balanced, unselfish style that has defined its season.
Taylah Murtagh led all scorers with 29 points, knocking down four three-pointers and going 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Leila Heffernan was equally efficient, pouring in 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting while adding five rebounds and three assists.
Jersey Berg delivered a strong all-around performance with 16 points, nine rebounds, and five assists, while Dani Jordan chipped in 15 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double. Off the bench, Lucia Bellido added nine points and five rebounds, and Emily Fixico contributed six points and eight boards in limited minutes.
Defensively, the Tetons were just as sharp, forcing 27 Miles turnovers and turning them into easy transition opportunities. Sophie Barker didn't score from the field but made her presence felt with six assists and a team-high five steals, helping disrupt Miles CC's offensive rhythm throughout the game.
Miles Community College was led by Ebele Mbagwu and Pien Draisma, who each scored 13 points, but the Pioneers struggled to keep pace with Williston State's depth and tempo. Miles shot 42.4 percent overall but couldn't overcome the turnover margin and rebounding disadvantage.
With the convincing road win, Williston State continues to build momentum as it heads into the final stretch of the season, firmly establishing itself as one of the top teams in the region at 25-1.
