Williston State Women Roll Past South Mountain, 108–12
The Williston State College women's basketball team delivered a dominant all-around performance, overwhelming South Mountain Community College 108–12 in a wire-to-wire victory marked by efficiency, depth, and relentless defense.
Williston State shot an impressive 60.9 percent from the field and knocked down 8-of-19 from three-point range, while forcing 36 turnovers on the defensive end. The Tetons also controlled the glass, outrebounding South Mountain 48–34, and piled up 29 assists on 42 made field goals.
Balanced scoring attack
Five Williston State players reached double figures, led by Taylah Murtagh, who poured in a game-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting while adding seven steals and four assists. Leila Heffernan followed closely with 17 points and nine rebounds, anchoring the interior on both ends of the floor.
Jersey Berg was nearly flawless offensively, scoring 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting while dishing out six assists and grabbing seven rebounds. Lucia Bellido provided a big spark off the bench, tallying 13 points in just 17 minutes, and Sophie Barker added nine points with a perfect 3-for-3 performance from the field.
Williston State's depth was on full display as all 10 players who saw the floor scored, including Lyssa Peterson (9 points), Emily Fixico (8 points, 5 blocks), and Stina Södergård (7 points).
Defense sets the tone
The Tetons' defense was suffocating from the opening tip, holding South Mountain to just 4-of-55 shooting (7.3 percent) and a scoreless night from beyond the arc. Williston State recorded 11 steals and 16 blocks, repeatedly disrupting passing lanes and denying shots at the rim.
South Mountain struggled to find any offensive rhythm, with no player scoring more than four points. The Cougars finished with just one assist as a team, underscoring Williston State's defensive pressure throughout the game.
