Williston State Splits Doubleheader With Miles Community College
Williston State College and Miles Community College traded wins in a doubleheader showdown, as the Tetons women pulled out a hard-fought 76–72 victory before the Williston State men fell 81–64 to the Pioneers.
Tetons Women Edge Miles 76–72
The Williston State women's basketball team showed grit and composure down the stretch to secure a 76–72 win over Miles Community College in a tightly contested game.
Taylah Murtagh led the way for the Tetons with a game-high 23 points, shooting 8-of-15 from the floor while adding four steals. Jersey Berg was dominant in the paint, posting a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds while playing all 40 minutes.
Williston State's rebounding advantage proved critical, as the Tetons outrebounded Miles 49–37, including 17 offensive boards. Emily Fixico chipped in 10 rebounds off the bench, while Dani Jordan added 11 points and eight rebounds.
Despite struggling from beyond the arc (2-of-13), Williston State made up ground at the free-throw line, converting 20-of-33 attempts. Strong defense late forced key Miles turnovers and helped seal the win.
Miles was led by Matilda Sanz with 21 points, while Laynee Elness added 15 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
Miles Men Pull Away From Tetons, 81–64
In the men's contest, Miles Community College used balanced scoring and efficiency to pull away from Williston State for an 81–64 victory.
Azenio Cossa paced Miles with 28 points on an efficient 10-of-17 shooting, while Uwami Chongo and Shad Boyce each scored 14 points. Boyce also controlled the glass with 14 rebounds, helping Miles dominate the boards 49–35.
Williston State struggled offensively, shooting just 31.1% from the field and 18.5% from three-point range. Eden Hobbs led the Tetons with 25 points, knocking down three three-pointers, while Josiah McDonald added 13 points and five steals.
Turnovers also proved costly for Williston State, which committed 14 compared to Miles' aggressive defensive pressure that produced 12 steals.
